Gavilon Grain - Customer Case Study

Gavilon Grain, LLC built a new rail-loading terminal near Chester, MT to tap the Hi-Line’s high-quality wheat for export and to solve capacity and efficiency constraints on truck intake and shuttle train loading. The company needed a high-throughput, automated facility that could reliably handle large volumes, speed truck and rail turns, and protect workers during loading operations.

Gavilon answered with a 1-million-bushel slipform concrete elevator (plus outdoor pile capacity), an 8,190-foot loop track, and integrated high-capacity equipment — 38,000-bph legs and conveyors, a 90,000-bph bulk weigh loadout scale, Cultura Technologies oneWeigh automation for truck and rail, Fairbanks scales, sampling probes, and fall-protection systems — built with experienced partners. The facility went online January 2012 and now loads 110-car trains in under six hours, streamlines truck flows with automated ticketing, and boosts export supply to Gavilon’s terminal network while improving safety and operational efficiency.
