A Cultura Technologies Case Study
United Grain Systems (UGS) is a 50/50 joint venture between United Farmers Cooperative and Archer Daniels Midland formed to solve growing logistics and market-access challenges for southern Minnesota producers. As UFC’s grain volumes tripled, the cooperative faced inefficient trucking, limited rail access and inadequate storage that threatened its ability to compete and deliver producers to global markets.
UGS built a state-of-the-art, 7-million-bushel shuttle loading terminal on a 200-acre Brownton site with 15 million bushels of combined storage, automated truck processing and 110-car shuttle loading tied to major railroads. The investment quickly paid off: turnaround times dropped to about five minutes per truck, UGS added 460 new patrons, sold 18 trains shortly after opening and was on pace to handle 30 million bushels in 2013, expanding market access and improving returns for local growers.
