Dr. Lauren Welsh, a pediatric anesthesiologist and founder of PreOpApp™ Kids, envisioned a digital platform to reduce fear and improve the surgical experience for children and their families. The challenge was to adapt technology built for gaming into a clinically appropriate pediatric preoperative care environment and to deliver a stable, cross-platform application with high usability for young patients, caregivers, and clinicians. Cubix developed a mobile application using Unity and JavaScript to create an intuitive dual-zone experience. The solution featured a Kid Zone with interactive games and audiovisual storytelling to reduce anxiety, and a Guardian Zone with structured guidance and automated fasting reminders. The result was a fully functional app that successfully achieved all project goals, providing a secure onboarding experience and receiving positive user feedback for delivering a supportive and engaging pediatric surgery preparation tool.
