Leading U.S. Construction Firm Defended Against Ransomware by CTERA and Earthbend

S.J. Louis Construction, a national contractor founded in 1983 that handles underground utilities, tunneling and earthwork across the U.S., faced a critical data-protection gap: decades-old tape backups, no consistent offsite rotation at remote sites, and slow, manual restores. That vulnerability was exposed when ransomware hit a Texas office and threatened files supporting roughly $200 million in current work, putting business continuity at serious risk.

Working with Earthbend, S.J. Louis deployed CTERA cloud storage gateways at remote sites to provide centrally managed, hybrid local-and-cloud backups with nightly replication. When ransomware struck twice, IT simply rolled back to pre-attack snapshots and restored servers from the gateways and cloud with zero files lost, eliminating the ransom threat, restoring productivity quickly, and modernizing backup and offsite protection.
