Superior Performance, “Always-On” Access Critical for Digital Hospitals

Tucson Medical Center (TMC), a 640-bed HIMSS Stage 7 digital hospital, needed a storage platform that could keep up with explosive growth in Epic electronic health record data, HIPAA retention requirements, and the demands of 700+ applications. With guidance from cStor, TMC turned to NetApp ONTAP running on FAS systems and FlexPod technologies to replace an overtaxed EMC CLARiiON environment.

With cStor and NetApp, TMC improved performance and resilience across its environment: latency dropped from 15ms to 4ms, 98% of healthcare apps were virtualized, and development environments could be spun up in 20 minutes instead of two days. The solution also enabled no-downtime storage reorganization, stronger disaster recovery with SnapMirror and SnapVault, and far more reliable always-on access for clinicians and patients.
