Case Study: Khan Academy expands global reach and translates 1.3M words with Crowdin

A Crowdin Case Study

Preview of the Khan Academy Case Study

Khan Academy increased international awareness and involved thousands of product users worldwide into translation effort using Crowdin

Khan Academy, the nonprofit aiming to provide a free world‑class education to anyone anywhere, needed to scale localization of its platform, exercises and videos to reach global learners and manage thousands of volunteer translators while ensuring quality. To solve this, Khan Academy adopted Crowdin’s localization management platform and Crowdin In‑Context tool to integrate translation into its development process and provide translators with real app context.

Using Crowdin, Khan Academy centralized translations in a secure account, automated string sync with its codebase, and organized work for more than 4,000 translators who can translate in‑app with real‑time context. The effort delivered three fully translated platforms (Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, French), 1,300,000+ words translated, 40+ languages underway, and a measurable boost in international awareness and product usage, bringing Khan Academy closer to its mission.
