Case Study: TYPO3 achieves faster, higher-quality backend translations with Crowdin In-Context

A Crowdin Case Study

Preview of the TYPO3 Case Study

How Crowdin improves the quality of localized content and resolves issues typically caused by a lack of contextual information in traditional workflows

TYPO3 was preparing to move from an old translation server and wanted to improve how translations were created and reviewed in context. A two‑year‑old prototype to embed Crowdin’s In‑Context localization tool existed but hadn’t been widely adopted, so the TYPO3 team revisited and adapted that prototype to work with modern TYPO3 versions.

Crowdin delivered an In‑Context localization solution via a TYPO3 extension that overlays the backend (and frontend plugins), replaces strings with editable identifiers, and surfaces a simplified Crowdin Editor with TM, MT, approval/voting, comments and term management. By enabling translators and proofreaders to work directly in the live application, Crowdin eliminated the need to hunt for strings on the Crowdin website, improved contextual accuracy and review efficiency, and supports TYPO3 versions v11–v13.
