A Crowdin Case Study
Chess.com, the largest online social network for chess players, needed a better way to localize its products after its home‑grown solution and outside “professional” translators failed to capture chess‑specific terminology. To leverage its community and lower the input barrier, Chess.com adopted Crowdin's crowdsourced localization platform.
Using Crowdin, Chess.com launched a 2,000‑word Android app project that mobilized 196 contributors to reach 53 target languages in about four weeks; the workflow runs for $29/month and has saved roughly $200 per language (about $10,600 so far) versus agency translation. Crowdin’s intuitive UI, accountability/reporting features and easy import/export enabled fast, accurate community translations, increased user engagement, and rapid turnaround of new text.
