A Crossmatch Case Study
The Moroccan Royal Gendarmerie, part of the Royal Armed Forces of Morocco, needed to improve a criminal booking and identification process that relied on manual ink-and-paper procedures, paper archives, and outpost-by-outpost processing. These issues made record matching slow, labor intensive, and prone to inefficiency, especially without a shared centralized criminal records database. Crossmatch was selected to help modernize the process with biometric identification technology.
Crossmatch provided an end-to-end criminal enrollment and identification solution that digitized booking records, supported fingerprint and palm print capture, and centralized criminal data in an AFIS database. The initial database of 20,000 records grew to more than 130,000 in 4 years, and the Gendarmerie has since processed over 36,000 criminal bookings, solved more than 400 latent cases, booked over 100 suspects using mobile handhelds, and identified 15,000 illegal immigrants at remote border crossings.
