Teesside University needed to strengthen safety and security for students and staff across campus and abroad while supporting recruitment and retention. The university partnered with CriticalArc to deploy its SafeZone distributed command-and-control solution to deliver precise situational awareness, faster responses and better engagement between the security team and students.

CriticalArc implemented SafeZone’s mobile app, control-room visibility, and 3D Indoor Positioning (IPS) with heat-mapping, giving controllers real‑time locations of users and responders. Within 12 months over 4,000 students were active users, the service aided police in locating two suspects, improved lone-worker safety, increased student satisfaction in comparative surveys, reduced crime and boosted recruitment—demonstrating faster dispatch, better patrol optimisation and greater recognition of the security team’s value.
