Case Study: EagleEyes enables Michael Nash’s communication with Crick Software Clicker

EagleEyes supported Michael Nash, a student with severe disabilities who used a wheelchair and could communicate only through eye movement. His challenge was to find a way to express himself and participate in school despite having no conventional speech or writing ability. Crick Software’s Clicker software was used alongside EagleEyes technology to help make communication possible.

Crick Software’s Clicker enabled Michael’s teacher to build word-and-picture grids that he could select using eye gaze, turning his eye movements into spoken or written communication through the Clicker Writer. The same approach also let his teacher adapt regular curriculum assessments into multiple-choice formats so Michael could show what he knew alongside his peers. The result was that Michael became a fully integrated student, communicated for the first time, and even wrote the story of his life for the documentary “I’m In Here.”
