FINRA streams 4TB of data a day with Cribl

FINRA (The Financial Industry Regulatory Agency) faced the challenge of needing to stream vast amounts of its data—up to 4TB daily—to multiple destinations to meet archiving requirements. The Security Engineering team, led by Siddartha Dadana, sought a solution to route this data efficiently without the typical time and manual effort required. They turned to vendor Cribl and began an evaluation of its product, Cribl Stream.

Cribl Stream provided a solution that was straightforward to set up, allowing FINRA to get data flowing to the right destinations in the correct formats within hours instead of weeks. The implementation saved significant time and effort by automatically enriching data with contextual lookups, eliminating the need for manual updates. As a result, FINRA reduced operational complexity, avoided the need to maintain dozens of servers, and is now planning to empower other teams with self-service data onboarding while using Cribl Stream to power its own machine learning initiatives for identifying unusual network behavior.
