University of Houston upgrades lecture hall lighting with Cree Lighting for 50,000 hours of low-maintenance illumination

The University of Houston, a major public research institution, faced significant lighting challenges in its Gerald D. Hines College of Architecture lecture hall. The existing compact fluorescent fixtures provided poor illumination, problematic dimming, and were extremely difficult and laborious to maintain. Seeking a sustainable solution that aligned with the university's formal sustainability policy, construction manager Ken Oliver turned to Cree Lighting and its LED technology to address these issues.

Cree Lighting implemented a solution using 28 Essentia recessed LED downlights. This upgrade provided the lecture hall with 50,000 hours of illumination and resolved the previous maintenance concerns. The result was a significantly improved lighting quality for the space while aligning with the university's sustainability goals.
