U.S. Navy Sailors deploy 10-year composite submarine camels with Creative Composites Group

The U.S. Navy faced a challenge with its traditional steel and wood submarine camels, which are floating barriers used to protect submarines and port structures during berthing. These camels were prone to corrosion and degradation in seawater, required high maintenance, and came in a problematic variety of types for different submarine classes. Creative Composites Group provided a solution using its universal Fiber-Reinforced Polymer (FRP) composite submarine camels.

Creative Composites Group designed and built a new, universal composite camel that is corrosion-resistant and eliminates maintenance needs. After a successful prototype deployed for over a decade required no maintenance, the solution was expanded to multiple naval bases. The result is a significant reduction in life-cycle costs, with the camels expected to last more than 25 years without scheduled maintenance or corrosion.
