City of Trail opens 722-ft Columbia River Skywalk with Creative Composites Group

The City of Trail, British Columbia faced a challenge when severe deterioration forced the closure of its historic Old Trail Bridge. The city needed a new structure to carry a sewer line, a water line, and serve as a vital pedestrian and cycling route as part of a downtown revitalization plan. They turned to Creative Composites Group and selected its molded FRP FiberSpan integrated bridge system for a high-strength, low-maintenance solution.

Creative Composites Group fabricated custom FRP deck panels that were lightweight and prefabricated with features like a crown, drainage scuppers, and rail connections. This design allowed for a quicker and easier installation over the Columbia River, significantly reducing the overall project timeline. The result was the Columbia River Skywalk, which opened on time and on budget in December 2016, providing a long-lasting deck that supports foot traffic, a cycling route, and emergency vehicles.
