Ameren strengthens 20-mile grid spans with Creative Composites Group’s FRP poles

The utility company Ameren faced a challenge with extreme Midwest weather causing cascading outages when its wood utility poles failed in high winds. To strengthen its grid, Ameren worked with Creative Composites Group and implemented a staggered installation of their TridentStrong™ FRP utility poles.

Creative Composites Group provided a solution where a more resilient FRP pole was installed every fifth pole. This staggered approach successfully contained outages, as the TridentStrong poles remained standing through severe winds and ice storms while adjacent wood poles failed. The result was a significantly reduced restoration time and cost for Ameren, with the added benefit of the poles showing no signs of aging after a decade of service.
