How Crayon’s image recognition app helped Coca-Cola bottler identify 220,000 spare parts

Coca-Cola HBC, a major beverage bottler, faced a significant challenge in managing its inventory of 220,000 spare parts across numerous plants. Technicians were spending excessive time identifying and sourcing the correct parts, which was reducing production line efficiency. The company was initially skeptical but engaged vendor Crayon to explore if an image recognition solution could address this inefficiency.

Crayon developed an AI-powered image recognition app built on the Microsoft Azure platform. The solution allows technicians to quickly identify a part and its location by taking a picture, dramatically speeding up the process. After a successful proof of concept, the app was rolled out to dozens of plants. Crayon's solution is projected to improve a key performance metric by 0.05% and achieve a full return on investment in under two years, with other departments now looking to leverage the technology.
