A Crane Electronics Group Case Study

Preview of the Nissan Motor Co Case Study

Providing a tailored solution to ensure correct, precise assembly for Nissan’s state-of-the-art EV battery facility

Nissan Motor Manufacturing UK required an electrically safe and insulated digital torque wrench solution for their new electric vehicle battery assembly facility. Their challenge was to find highly accurate tooling that provided user protection in high-voltage applications and precise control for nearby fasteners with varying tightening parameters. Crane Electronics Group was engaged to develop a tailored assembly solution.

Crane Electronics developed the new WrenchStar Multi-e, a fully insulated digital torque wrench designed in collaboration with Nissan's engineers. The solution provided extremely high accuracy, user safety with insulation for up to 1000V, and an inductive charging system. The implementation by Crane Electronics resulted in positive feedback from Nissan operators for its ease of use and ergonomics, and it allowed Nissan to tightly control their torque quality from the beginning of the assembly process.
