Crafter WCM Streamlines Operations While Expanding Business User Flexibility

The National Academy of Sciences (NAS), specifically its Division on Earth & Life Studies, needed a modern web content management solution to replace a homegrown CMS that was hard to maintain, required IT support for even basic updates, and offered no user permissions or accountability. NAS turned to Crafter Software and its open source Crafter WCM platform to give editorial staff more control while improving the visitor experience.

Crafter Software implemented a decoupled, enterprise-grade solution built with Alfresco, Crafter, Grails, and Mule ESB, integrating content repositories, search, email marketing, and external data sources into a flexible public website and internal content system. The result was faster publishing, reduced IT involvement, stronger user accountability, real-time in-context preview for editors, and a more timely, content-rich site that can grow with future needs.
