University of Illinois Leverages Flexible Wired & Wireless Connectivity at Live Events

The University of Illinois’ Laboratory for Audience Interactive Technologies (LAIT) developed a real-time, AR-capable mobile app that transforms audience participation at live performances but depends on reliable WAN connectivity across widely varying venue networks. Facing venues that often lack adequate WiFi or infrastructure, LAIT engaged Cradlepoint and its NetCloud Service for Mobile to provide a flexible pop-up networking solution that supports both wired and LTE-based WAN links.

Cradlepoint supplied purpose-built routers with embedded LTE plus cloud configuration, WAN link termination, traffic management, firewall, and 24x7 support so LAIT can quickly “plug and play” at venues nationwide. The solution delivers consistent connectivity—allowing LAIT to issue an audience SSID, enable real-time cues and interactions, and unlock expanded interactive and data-collection opportunities for the University of Illinois.
