Seattle Police Stream Video from Connected Cruisers to Headquarters at Critical Times

The Seattle Police Department, which supports more than 1,400 officers, needed to replace an aging in-vehicle connectivity system that forced cruisers to return to precincts to offload video and take vehicles out of service for troubleshooting. To modernize its fleet and support new evidence and video platforms, SPD selected Cradlepoint’s NetCloud Service for Mobile and ruggedized IBR900 Series in-vehicle routers.

Cradlepoint deployed NetCloud, IBR900 routers (with Gigabit-Class LTE, GPS and robust Wi‑Fi), and NetCloud Manager to enable continuous cellular video uploads (including Axon Fleet 2 integration), automatic Wi‑Fi-as-WAN switching at precincts, and centralized remote management. As a result, supervisors can review footage while officers remain on patrol, investigators can access evidence before arriving on scene, IT can troubleshoot remotely to avoid vehicle downtime, and the department gained 24x7 connectivity, greater bandwidth and scalability for future projects.
