Reliable & Redundant Connectivity Provide Indianapolis Emergency Medical Services with Faster Communications

Indianapolis Emergency Medical Services (IEMS), the primary 911 pre-hospital provider for Marion County, needed far more reliable and redundant cellular connectivity for its in-vehicle Mobile Data Terminals (MDTs), portable ePCR devices, and other mobile systems. Prior improvised routers caused frequent disconnects and slow speeds, jeopardizing near‑real‑time patient data delivery to hospitals. To address this, IEMS turned to Cradlepoint and deployed NetCloud Service for Mobile across its vehicle fleet.

Cradlepoint implemented purpose-built in-vehicle LTE routers, external antennas, and cloud management via NetCloud Manager to provide multi‑carrier redundancy, remote diagnostics, and centralized fleet management. As a result, connectivity issues have dropped to zero, ambulance downtime from IT problems is down 90%, ePCR data is delivered near real time to receiving hospitals, and the rollout—covering 40 ambulances plus 10 command/support vehicles and expanding—was cost‑neutral and simplified maintenance.
