Oil & Gas Company Uses Software-Defined LTE Network to Remotely Monitor SCADA

ARB Midstream, a North American crude oil and liquids midstream company, needed a cost‑effective, reliable way to connect LACT units and a new cloud‑centered SCADA system across remote pipeline sites. With a three‑person IT team, ARB sought to replace expensive VSAT links and avoid the complexity of MPLS or per‑site IPSec and static IPs, so it turned to Cradlepoint’s NetCloud Service for IoT and LTE‑enabled IBR600 routers.

Cradlepoint deployed NetCloud Service (including NetCloud Perimeter/SD‑Perimeter, NetCloud Manager, IBR600 routers with dual LTE modems and optional COR docks) to create a private, software‑defined overlay for IIoT traffic. The solution replaced VSAT, isolated SCADA from the corporate network, eliminated the need for per‑device public IPs, and enabled zero‑touch provisioning and central management—giving ARB fast rollouts and the ability to manage sites with a three‑person IT team. Measurable impacts include automatic carrier failover in 5–10 seconds, faster time‑to‑deployment, and continuous, secure delivery of mission‑critical SCADA data.
