New Jersey Police Department Improves Officer Safety & Efficiencies

The Ewing Police Department, which serves more than 36,000 residents with 80 patrol officers and 30 frontline vehicles, was struggling with unreliable legacy in-vehicle networking: frequent VPN drops as officers moved between cell towers, hard-to-manage equipment, and time-consuming firmware updates. To address these mission‑critical connectivity and management challenges, the department selected Cradlepoint and its Cradlepoint NetCloud Service for mobile.

Cradlepoint deployed rugged in-vehicle LTE routers, NetCloud Manager for centralized administration, and a cloud-based virtual overlay (NetCloud Perimeter) to provide always-on, secure connectivity and WiFi-as-WAN. As a result, officers can access critical applications from their cruisers without restarting VPNs, IT can manage updates remotely (reducing per-vehicle update time from up to an hour to about three minutes and eliminating multi-day cycles), trips back to the station have dropped, and overall network-management time and disruption have been significantly reduced.
