Greenville County Schools Turn Bus Time into Learning Time

Greenville County Schools, the largest district in South Carolina with about 75,000 students and a 425‑bus fleet, needed a safe, secure, and fast way to extend classroom access onto buses so students could use Chromebooks while traveling. The district also required reliable GPS tracking, live video streaming, and a solution that could be up and running quickly. To meet those needs GCS partnered with Cradlepoint and deployed Cradlepoint NetCloud Service for Mobile.

Cradlepoint installed in-vehicle LTE routers with WiFi access points, GPS/telematics integration, WiFi-as-WAN, VPN security, and cloud management across all 425 buses, managed via the NetCloud platform and an MSP. The rollout produces WiFi within five minutes of bus start-up, supports up to 77 students per bus, enabled up to 28,000 hours of additional instructional time, delivers accurate GPS/geofencing and live streaming that reduced truck rolls, and drastically cut device upkeep—freeing IT staff from ongoing troubleshooting.
