Fire Agency Equips Command Vehicle with Flexible Cellular Broadband

The Recklinghausen Fire Department needed to modernize its aging command and control vehicle (CCV) to get real-time access to mission-critical data and network multiple onboard devices. Existing hardware offered limited 4G to a single PC, lacked ethernet/serial ports, and could not be managed centrally by the lean IT team. To solve this, the department turned to Cradlepoint and deployed Cradlepoint’s NetCloud Service for Mobile together with ruggedized in-vehicle routers.

Cradlepoint installed LTE-capable routers with dual modems, multiple WAN/LAN ports, resilient Wi‑Fi and centralized NetCloud management, enabling seamless carrier failover, Wi‑Fi-as-WAN for large uploads, and remote troubleshooting. As a result, on-scene commanders now have real-time operational data and interactive maps, the CCV networks a PC, tablet, large monitor and printer, and the IT team can update and troubleshoot devices without taking the vehicle out of service—reducing downtime and avoiding costly cellular overages.
