A Cradlepoint Case Study
The County of Los Angeles Fire Department (LACoFD) faced an aging, decentralized in‑vehicle network that relied on a privately built LTE network and congested commercial LTE, causing bandwidth competition, dead zones, and limited centralized management. To modernize its fleet connectivity and support Gigabit‑Class LTE, LACoFD selected Cradlepoint’s NetCloud Service for Mobile and in‑vehicle routers after a proof of concept.
Cradlepoint deployed NetCloud Service via multi‑modem Gigabit‑Class LTE routers in more than 1,000 fire apparatuses and 400 support vehicles, delivering dual‑modem multi‑carrier failover, nationwide public‑safety network access, secure separate Wi‑Fi, GPS/telematics, and cloud configuration/analytics. The Cradlepoint solution produced seamless failover so crews don’t notice connectivity loss, centralized monitoring and fleetwide updates in minutes instead of days or weeks, and actionable coverage insights to work with carriers — materially improving reliability and operational efficiency across LACoFD’s fleet.
