City of San Antonio Future Proofs Traffic Management System With Cradlepoint 4G LTE Networking

The City of San Antonio, Texas, faced a reliability and scalability challenge in its Traffic Management Center, which oversees nearly 1,400 intersections for a rapidly growing population. Its aging radio-based wireless mesh only allowed staff to communicate with about 60% of intersections and lacked cloud-based remote management. To address this, the city turned to Cradlepoint and its NetCloud Service for IoT and LTE-enabled IoT routers.

Cradlepoint deployed NetCloud Service for IoT and purpose-built LTE gateways in nearly 700 traffic cabinets, along with cloud management via NetCloud Manager. The solution raised intersection connectivity from roughly 60% to nearly 100% (surpassing a 95% mandate), enabled real-time remote troubleshooting and fewer truck rolls, allowed a rapid carrier switch for 200 devices in days, and positioned the city to scale new smart-city applications — all delivered and managed through Cradlepoint.
