A Cradlepoint Case Study
Advanced Control Systems (ACS) supplies SCADA monitoring and control for water, wastewater and other infrastructure, but faced costly, labor‑intensive manual operations in rural sites — for example a dam serving more than 286,000 acres that required an onsite operator, frequent visits and long‑distance calls. To modernize these remote installations, ACS turned to Cradlepoint, deploying Cradlepoint COR Series routers (and evaluating Cradlepoint’s NetCloud Manager) to bring wireless broadband connectivity to previously unserviceable locations.
Cradlepoint’s rugged COR Series routers with embedded modems enabled ACS to build a secure, cloud‑based SCADA solution accessible from handheld devices, with automatic failover/failback for higher uptime and the ability to use whichever carrier provides the best signal. The result: district supervisors can remotely monitor and control water levels and gates (eliminating the need for constant onsite presence and expensive phone calls), reduced truck rolls through remote management, and a resilient system that withstands extreme temperatures while allowing ACS to expand its automated services nationwide.
