Case Study: Conrail achieves automated, reliable secure FTP with Coviant Software’s Diplomat Transaction Manager

A Coviant Software Case Study

Preview of the Conrail Case Study

Conrail on Track Using Diplomat MFT

Conrail, a Philadelphia‑based switching and terminal railroad, faced a sudden deadline when SunTrust discontinued the dial‑up service used to exchange customer finance files with eight banks. Needing a supported, easy‑to‑use secure FTP solution that would run across their Windows environment, Conrail selected Coviant Software’s Diplomat Transaction Manager (Standard Edition) after evaluating a free trial.

Coviant Software implemented Diplomat with built‑in scheduling, menu‑driven transaction setup, event notification, detailed logs and a database audit trail, delivering end‑to‑end automation of a process that had been manual. The result: automatic, reliable file transfers with almost no failures (only a couple of jobs failed when source files arrived late), email alerts for job problems, faster troubleshooting, and expansion to payroll and rolling‑stock transfers — with plans to automate transfers with five of eight banks by mid‑2008.
