A Covariant Case Study

Preview of the Otto Group Case Study

Otto Group will strengthen its logistics network with hundreds of AI-powered robots

Otto Group, the largest online retailer of European origin, faced challenges in its logistics operations due to labor market shortages and the complex, manual task of picking and sorting a vast variety of items in its fulfillment centers. To build resilience and increase efficiency, the company partnered with vendor Covariant to leverage its AI-powered robotics technology for automating these "hand" tasks.

The solution involved implementing hundreds of Covariant's AI-powered robots, which are powered by the Covariant Brain, a universal AI foundation model. This technology enables the robots to see, think, and act, learning from millions of objects to handle a wide range of SKUs autonomously. A key result is that a Covariant robot can perform up to 1,600 picks per hour, significantly improving operational performance and future-proofing the company's fulfillment network across Europe.
