A large national retailer with more than 3,000 locations and 18,000 employees needed a fast, easy way for store and headquarters users to order goods and services so staff could spend more time with customers. Two prior purchasing systems failed to meet the scale and usability requirements, and the company needed a solution that supported requisitions, approvals, budgeting and reporting while integrating with their Lawson ERP.

Coupa was deployed to handle requisitioning, approvals, budgeting, POs, receiving, invoicing and benchmarking and was integrated with their Sourcing/Contracts solution and Lawson via automated file transfers. The rollout was completed in rapid waves (first 300 stores in 80 days, the remainder in the following weeks), supported a 20,000 user license, 30,000+ suppliers and 1.5M GL accounts, produced over 45,000 POs in the first 100 days, and enabled manager budget visibility, data segregation and near‑instant onboarding of acquired companies through automated integrations.
