Case Study: Wells Fargo achieves real-time protection of 100% of transactions with Couchbase

A Couchbase Case Study

Preview of the Wells Fargo Case Study

Wells Fargo Protecting 100% of transactions in real time

Wells Fargo, one of the world’s largest banks, needed a real‑time fraud monitoring platform that could scale horizontally and vertically, provide high availability/DR, and support an advanced rules engine and fast profile lookups. The legacy approach (ISAM files and Oracle for reporting) couldn’t deliver the required throughput and low latency for decisioning across growing lines of business.

Using Couchbase Server (Customer 360, caching, N1QL, multi‑dimensional scaling, XDCR and in‑memory capabilities), Wells Fargo achieved sub‑10 ms read/write performance at roughly 9,000 operations per second. The bank now processes 100% of transactions in real time (vs. 15% previously), handles 50M+ transactions per day (up from 4M+), and expanded fraud protection beyond Debit PIN to include Debit SIG and Deposit.
