Powering the travel industry’s most reliable customer experiences

Amadeus, a leading provider of travel software that powers boarding for over 1.8 billion airline passengers a year, needed a highly available, cloud‑ready platform to manage the world’s largest travel booking workload. Facing extreme “look‑to‑book” ratios that generate up to 7M requests per second and 300K data requests per booking, plus 100% annual growth targets, the company had no room for outages and needed to cut operational complexity and replication overhead across datacenters.

Amadeus deployed Couchbase Server clusters with cross‑datacenter replication (XDCR), using features like N1QL, multi‑dimensional scaling and an in‑memory engine to support Inventory, Reservations and Customer‑360 use cases. The result: sustained peak performance of ~8M operations/sec with sub‑2.5 ms response times, simplified replication and operations, and efficient capacity (18 TB usable for a 17 TB dataset), delivering greater reliability and a single source of truth for bookings.
