Case Study: Equifax achieves 5-millisecond response times and rapid scalability for 1.5 billion records with Couchbase

A Couchbase Case Study

Preview of the Equifax Case Study

Equifax responding rapidly in a changing world

Equifax, a global consumer and business credit-data company, faced a sudden regulatory change from Fannie Mae that required 24 months of online trended credit data. To meet the new requirement — merging three credit-reporting sources plus real‑time updates and delivering 5‑millisecond responses across 1.5 billion constantly changing records — Equifax needed a high-performance, highly scalable data platform and moved away from its existing architecture.

Equifax selected Couchbase over MongoDB and Redis, leveraging Multi‑Dimensional Scaling to scale workloads independently, XDCR and master‑master replication for disaster recovery, and the Memcached protocol and RESTful API for operations. Developers used N1QL and replaced Hadoop with RxJava to process 300+ million documents in 40 minutes, while close technical support from Couchbase helped the team meet tight production timelines and deliver the required performance and reliability.
