DIRECTV, a leading provider of digital television services serving roughly 38 million customers worldwide, needed to support rapid business changes and preserve 100% uptime across a flexible database schema. Traditional entity-relationship data models were constraining development, so the company evaluated NoSQL solutions and dynamic languages to simplify modeling real-world objects.

DIRECTV implemented an end-to-end Node.js and Couchbase solution, storing JSON documents and using Couchbase’s RESTful API and N1QL SQL-like query engine. N1QL eased the developer transition and Couchbase delivered strong performance and flexible querying, enabling faster development and scalable, reliable production services.
