Cisco migrates to Couchbase in the cloud

Cisco’s VSRM platform powers video session and resource management for cable operators worldwide, handling more than 100 billion user sessions per year. As demand grew, the VSRM stack became hard to scale and legacy hardware failure rates rose, so Cisco decided to rearchitect VSRM on NoSQL in the cloud to regain scalability, reliability and performance.

After evaluating alternatives like Cassandra and MongoDB, Cisco selected Couchbase for its strong standalone-like data consistency, reliable low-latency performance (consistent ~500 microsecond responses at large scale), and distributed scalability. Couchbase proved easy to manage as a “Swiss army knife” for clusters and, together with Cisco UCS Platform Architecture and Tegile IntelliFlash, delivered the efficiency, uptime and performance improvements Cisco and its customers required.
