A Cotap Case Study
Earth Hour, the global climate movement run by an eight-person team in Singapore with more than 10,000 volunteers across 172 countries, struggled to coordinate real-time activity and media sharing using consumer tools like WhatsApp and desktop platforms like Yammer. Those tools either lacked mobile-first usability or administrative features—large-group support, push alerts, analytics and easy video/photo sharing—making it difficult and time-consuming to organize simultaneous lights‑out events and keep volunteers informed worldwide.
Cotap provided a mobile‑first, synchronous platform with large official groups, a central contact directory, push notifications, analytics and fast media sharing, all easy enough for volunteers to adopt without training. The result was seamless, real‑time communication during events and ongoing planning, better visibility into message delivery and reads, richer volunteer-generated content, and a more efficient core team.
