How Airbus found the optimal strategy for the riveting machines of their final assembly line

Cosmo Tech worked with Airbus, one of the world’s leading aircraft and space vehicle manufacturers, to improve asset investment planning for the riveting machines on its final assembly line. Airbus needed a better way to maximize the useful life of six strategic machines while reducing total asset expenditure and avoiding production disruption from failures.

Using a Cosmo Tech Prescriptive Simulation Twin, Airbus modeled machine aging, maintenance, capital, and downtime costs across multiple scenarios to identify the optimal replacement strategy. The simulation ran 120,000 failure cases over a 60-year horizon and showed that Airbus could reduce total expenditure by 15%, while also aligning stakeholders around a clear, data-driven decision method.
