Case Study: Siemens AG achieves faster, lower-cost train maintenance manuals with Cortona3D and Teamcenter

A Cortona3D Case Study

Preview of the Siemens AG Case Study

Siemens Mobility uses Teamcenter to optimize on-time train performance

Siemens Mobility, a division of Siemens AG, faced the challenge of maintaining a new fleet of Thameslink trains with a demanding performance contract, requiring them to keep trains running optimally and improve the effectiveness of their maintenance teams. The traditional method of creating maintenance manuals was slow, prone to error, and often resulted in outdated information, which could lead to costly downtime. To solve this, they worked with vendor Cortona3D and implemented an integrated solution using the Teamcenter service lifecycle management platform and Cortona3D's RapidAuthor software.

The solution involved extracting core engineering data directly from Teamcenter and using RapidAuthor to transform it into interactive 3D animations and automated text for maintenance procedures. This streamlined process, supported by Cortona3D's technology, allowed a team of four to produce 700 documents in 14 months, cutting the time to create maintenance tasks by 50 percent at a significantly lower cost. The result was a 30 percent reduction in maintenance time for technicians, with accurate, up-to-date manuals available six months before the first train was delivered, ensuring higher train availability and effectiveness.
