How Cortical.io Semantic Search Engine is Helping a Global Company Automate Its Marketing Claim Verifications

Consumer Goods Giant struggled to verify marketing claims against the rapidly growing scientific literature—about 300,000 new clinical studies are registered annually—and manual review was slow, inconsistent and hampered by different vocabularies and chemical formulations. To solve this, the company engaged Cortical.io and used Cortical.io Semantic Search to automate the task of finding research studies that support or refute marketing claims.

Cortical.io implemented its RETINA-based Semantic Search and extraction models, trained quickly with a few expert annotations, to fingerprint queries and indexed documents, filter by formulas and ingredients, and return structured evidence via APIs. As a result, Cortical.io increased the number of relevant answers delivered to subject matter experts, discovered new sources of evidence in the literature, and enabled large parts of claims support research to be reassigned to junior researchers—freeing expensive experts for higher-value work.
