Good Employment Charter launches a 3D web game for commuters with Corporation Pop in 2024

The Greater Manchester Good Employment Charter, a voluntary scheme aiming to raise employment standards, sought to build on the success of its annual awareness week. Their challenge was to create an engaging and easily accessible mobile game for commuters that highlighted the 2024 theme of equality, diversity, and inclusion in the workplace. They commissioned the vendor Corporation Pop to design and build this web-based game.

Corporation Pop developed "The Game of Work," a 3D, snake-and-ladders-inspired game playable via a QR code scan. The solution used a retro 8-bit pixelated style to make it approachable and featured a game mechanic where three characters with different advantages experienced varied outcomes from the same career events, effectively demonstrating workplace inequality. The game was successfully promoted across Greater Manchester during Good Employment Week 2024 and was used by commuters, becoming a pivotal part of the campaign. Corporation Pop delivered a product that addressed complex social issues through an unobtrusive and fun gamified learning experience.
