Rapid growth exposed limits in its third‑party cloud deployment: rising and unpredictable costs, constrained system configurations, and expensive data transfers that made scaling, control, and low‑latency access to AWS impractical.

PlaceIQ moved to CoreSite cage colocation with cross-connects, a dark‑fiber ring and AWS Direct Connect to host a self‑managed, high‑density compute cluster. The new setup delivered rapid provisioning, a 10 Gbps intersite link, greater configuration flexibility and reduced bandwidth costs—cutting overall costs by as much as half—while improving data transfer speed, latency control and the company’s ability to scale and deliver better data products.
