A Corero Case Study
Pep Boys, the century-old automotive parts and service chain with more than 700 stores and a corporate headquarters in Philadelphia, needed to protect large volumes of customer and employee data (including PII and POS-related information) from increasingly sophisticated cyber threats and comply with PCI and state data-protection laws. Traditional defenses like firewalls and desktop anti-malware were insufficient against botnets, polymorphic attacks and targeted exploits, and a poor support experience with an incumbent IPS vendor prompted a search for a more reliable, manageable solution.
Pep Boys evaluated and deployed Corero’s IPS, using a proof-of-concept with customized rule sets and a bypass mode for safe testing; the appliance’s 64-core hardware, ProtectionCluster load-balancing/high-availability and integrated SIEM reporting provided low-latency, high-reliability protection. The result is cost-effective, 24x7 defense with timely updates and rollback capability, improved network visibility and performance, and fast vendor support—helping Pep Boys block advanced threats, monitor outbound infections, and simplify PCI DSS auditing.
