A CorelDRAW Case Study
The University of Regensburg tasked 14 art students with designing striking, city-inspired body paint for Daimler’s Smart car, a brief that demanded tight, scalable graphics and integration of functional elements on a very small, complex surface. To meet this challenge the students and faculty used CorelDRAW Graphics Suite (CorelDRAW) and Corel PHOTO-PAINT to scan, vectorize and refine sketches and photos into precise, scalable designs suitable for vehicle stencils.
CorelDRAW enabled fast iteration and accurate curve, color and shadow control across nearly 20 university CIP workstations, allowing the team to produce 14 original motifs in a six-month seminar. The vendor’s tools were used to vectorize artwork for airbrush stencils and adapt designs to the Smart’s body; the winning design by Johannes Steubl was printed, applied to a real Smart and displayed to the public in October 2012, demonstrating clear, practical impact from CorelDRAW’s workflow.
