Case Study: Artesà achieves award-winning, artisan-quality mass engraving with CorelDRAW

Innovation meets artistry, producing an award-winning, mass-engraving solution

Artesà, led by Leonardo Di Benedetto in Barcelona, designs a novel engraving machine to reproduce artisan-quality engravings at scale. Facing the challenge of converting hand-engraving techniques into repeatable, high-quality mass production, Artesà chose CorelDRAW Graphics Suite (and Corel PHOTO-PAINT) as the design/CAD foundation because of CorelDRAW’s familiarity and cost-effectiveness.

Using CorelDRAW Graphics Suite to create precise 2D vector drawings and a custom Artesà CNC plug-in that converts those drawings into 3D toolpaths, the solution drives the compact Artesà machine to mimic a master engraver’s chisel motion. The CorelDRAW-based workflow helped the prototype win a silver medal for innovation in Geneva, move into production with first customer deliveries scheduled for Q1 2010, and deliver an easy-to-use, rapid-deployment system that produces artisan-quality engravings at scale.
