A CorelDRAW Case Study

Detective in Forensic Services uses CorelDRAW 12 to present the evidence

West Haven Police Department’s Forensic Services detective John Brunetti needed to present complex crime-scene evidence — multi-block maps, partial fingerprints, photo lineups and bullet trajectories — in clear, court-ready formats for prosecutors and juries. To meet that challenge he relies on CorelDRAW (CorelDRAW Graphics Suite 12) and Corel PHOTO-PAINT to produce accurate, easy-to-understand 2D maps, annotated prints and composite images for testimony.

Using CorelDRAW and Corel PHOTO-PAINT, Brunetti imports aerial photos, traces vector maps with layered objects, aligns and annotates prints, composites low-light laser shots and standardizes photo lineups; final exhibits are enlarged and mounted (24” x 36”) for court. CorelDRAW’s tracing, layering and editing tools let him produce professional visuals quickly and intuitively — results the State’s Attorney’s office has repeatedly praised and that have improved clarity and effectiveness of courtroom presentations.
