Managing the Nuances of Retail Spend to Optimize Sourcing

Wesfarmers, a major Australian retailer, needed to manage the complexity of sourcing across diverse brands and a large split between merchandise (GFR) and non‑merchandise (GNFR) spend. As the first UK client to deploy Corcentric Sourcing, Wesfarmers sought a more flexible procurement operating model to handle 80,000 GFR products and a much larger GNFR supplier base while gaining better visibility and control.

Corcentric implemented a hybrid operating model—centralized eSourcing for GFR and a centre‑led model for GNFR—using Corcentric Sourcing and Contract Lifecycle Management, analytics, dashboards and automated contract reminders to map 100% of spend and tailor workflows by category. The outcome was greater transparency and governance, doubled spend throughput year‑on‑year, sourcing of 80K GFR products and measurable improvements in leverage, cost reduction and process consistency delivered by Corcentric.
