Preview of the Major Corrugated Packaging Manufacturer Case Study

Lowering one packaging plant’s energy costs by $167,000 per annum

A major corrugated packaging manufacturer in Australia and New Zealand tasked CoolPlanet with lowering its energy costs and emissions. The main challenge was that decades of continuous upgrades to its sophisticated 24,000m² facility had led to systems no longer operating as designed. A lack of sub-metering made it difficult to pinpoint the key drivers of energy consumption across a large number of discrete and independently operating machines.

CoolPlanet installed sub-meters for electricity, compressed air, and steam, integrating the data into its CoolPlanetOS software to create a digital twin of the site. This allowed them to identify and implement key projects, including energy management through equipment shutdowns, compressed air optimization, and steam system improvements. The CoolPlanet solution generated $167,000 in annual energy savings, achieved a 175% energy savings guarantee, and reduced annual CO₂ emissions by 800 tonnes.
