A Convio Case Study
The National Trust for Historic Preservation (NTHP) is a 250,000‑member nonprofit that protects and promotes America’s historic places. After launching a new website, NTHP needed to maintain steady member engagement and attract new supporters, but an earlier engagement effort proved cumbersome for users and failed to capture constituent data effectively.
Charity Dynamics re-launched the This Place Matters campaign using Google Maps, Flickr and APIs integrated with NTHP’s Convio database—letting people plant virtual flags, upload photos (used to build a photo mosaic), and share stories while automatically capturing contact data. The campaign drove 725 participants, more than 1,000 photos, 582 non‑member prospects, and a 2.3% participant-to-member conversion rate (vs. a 0.13% baseline), eliminated data silos, and created ongoing engagement and acquisition opportunities.
